As part of out whole school RE focus day on Christianity, KS2 children walked to St Mary Magdalen church in Bermondsey on Tuesday December 13th 2016. This walk was designed to help them understand what it must have been like for Mary and Joseph on their way to Bethlehem. On the way they met other “characters” who were also walking to Jerusalem.
When they got to the church they sang some carols – if they wished – as the nativity was told with children from each class taking part.
Then the children talked about what Christmas means and wrote their wishes for the world on gift tags which are now hanging on the school Christmas tree. These included love, peace, friendship, fun.
Finally they asked Ania Cannon and her colleagues from the London city mission some prepared questions about what it means to be a Christian. We must thank Ania for organising this event for our children.
